We Don’t Just Find Places. We Find the Ohio Worth Experiencing.

The Research Behind Ohio88Insider

There are thousands of places to eat, sleep, shop and explore across Ohio.

But finding a place on a map is easy.

Finding the locally owned restaurant worth driving 30 minutes out of your way for, the memorable overnight stay tucked away in a small Ohio town, or the backroad experience that turns an ordinary weekend into a story you’ll remember?

That takes work.

Ohio88Insider was created to do that work for you.

Our goal is simple: research Ohio county by county, look beyond the obvious corporate choices, and turn what we discover into useful travel resources that help you experience more of the local people, places and businesses that make Ohio different.

WHY OHIO88INSIDER?

Because a search result isn't the same thing as a recommendation.

Search for restaurants, lodging or attractions in almost any Ohio destination and you'll get plenty of results.

The problem is deciding which ones actually belong on your trip.

Ohio88Insider products are designed to narrow the field.

Instead of trying to include everything, we look for places that fit the kind of Ohio travel VacaTripPlan is built around: independent businesses, interesting communities, memorable experiences, scenic drives, hidden gems and places with a genuine connection to their area.

That philosophy also reflects the value Ohio's own tourism organizations place on local knowledge. The Ohio Association of Convention & Visitor Bureaus describes local destination organizations as an important source for discovering activities in their communities, while TourismOhio's statewide travel guides combine destinations with insights from local Ohioans, culinary experiences, small towns and hidden gems.

THE OHIO88INSIDER CHECK

What happens before a place makes one of our guides?

Every Ohio88Insider product begins with a much larger pool of possible locations.

Then we start narrowing.

✓ 1. COUNTY-BY-COUNTY RESEARCH

Ohio has 88 counties—and that's where our name comes from.

Rather than concentrating only on Columbus, Cleveland, Cincinnati and Ohio's best-known tourism destinations, our research is designed to reach into all 88 counties.

Small towns matter.

Backroads matter.

Independent businesses matter.

And sometimes the place you'll remember most isn't anywhere near the interstate.

✓ 2. LOCAL OWNERSHIP SCREENING

One of our biggest priorities is finding businesses with a genuine connection to their communities.

We look beyond familiar national chains and mass-market recommendations in search of locally owned and independently operated restaurants, accommodations, shops and experiences.

That doesn't mean a business earns a place simply because it's local.

Local is where the search starts—not where the evaluation ends.

✓ 3. MULTIPLE-SOURCE CROSS-CHECKING

A single website, social-media post or search result isn't enough to build a useful travel recommendation.

When researching locations, information may be compared across sources such as:

Official business information • tourism organizations • maps and location data • customer feedback • destination resources • local information • business websites and social channels

We look for consistency.

Does the business appear to be operating?

Does its location match?

Does the experience fit what we're creating?

Is there enough reliable information to justify including it?

When something doesn't add up, it deserves another look.

✓ 4. LOCATION & ROUTE REVIEW

A great destination can still make a terrible itinerary if the route doesn't make sense.

That's why our itinerary-building process considers more than the individual stops.

We look at where places are located in relation to one another, approximate driving distances, the logical order of stops and how the day might actually flow.

That's especially important for the kind of backroads Ohio travel we love.

Ohio travel-planning guidance itself emphasizes route maps, directions, designated stops and mileage as important parts of trip preparation.

We want you spending more time experiencing Ohio—and less time zigzagging across it.

THREE DIFFERENT PRODUCTS. ONE RESEARCH PHILOSOPHY.

Romantic Amish Country Escape

Suggested image: Cover/product mockup of the Romantic Amish Country Escape guide beside a warm photograph of Holmes County countryside.

Slow Down. Take the Backroads. Reconnect.

Our Romantic Amish Country Escape was created around something more specific than simply finding things to do in Holmes County.

It was built around the experience of traveling there as a couple.

That means considering the rhythm of the trip: scenic countryside, locally rooted stops, places to linger together, memorable meals and an itinerary that doesn't feel like a race from attraction to attraction.

Ohio's Amish Country is particularly well suited to this slower style of travel, with scenic drives, markets, independent shops, countryside experiences and distinctive lodging all contributing to the destination.

Ohio's 88 Restaurants

Suggested image: Product cover surrounded by a collage of three authentic-looking independent Ohio restaurants—a diner, small-town restaurant and rustic locally owned eatery.

88 Counties. Local Tables. A Different Way to Taste Ohio.

Ohio's food story isn't limited to restaurants in its largest cities.

Some of the places we're most interested in are the ones travelers can easily drive past.

The neighborhood institution.

The small-town diner.

The family restaurant.

The barbecue joint people tell their friends about.

The restaurant that's part of its community rather than simply located in it.

Ohio's 88 Restaurants is about giving travelers a reason to get off the interstate and discover them.

Ohio's 88 Local Overnights

Suggested image: Product cover with a cozy independent inn, historic lodging property or rustic Ohio cabin.

Because Where You Stay Should Be Part of the Trip.

Sometimes a hotel is simply where you sleep.

We wanted something different.

Ohio's 88 Local Overnights focuses on accommodations that can help travelers experience the character of the destination itself.

Our research considers the property's location, character, travel usefulness and its fit with the local-first philosophy behind Ohio88Insider.

The goal isn't merely:

“Where can I get a room?”

It's:

“Where could we stay that makes this trip more memorable?”

THE FINAL REVIEW

Before Research Becomes an Ohio88Insider Product

Research alone isn't the finished product.

The information has to become something a traveler can actually use.

Before an Ohio88Insider guide is considered finished, the content goes through a final editorial pass focused on:

Accuracy — Do the names, locations and essential details agree with the sources used?

Relevance — Does this place genuinely belong in this particular guide?

Local Character — Does it support our mission of helping travelers experience more locally rooted Ohio businesses and destinations?

Geography — Are locations assigned to the appropriate areas and counties?

Trip Flow — For itineraries, does the sequence make practical sense?

Clarity — Can someone unfamiliar with the destination understand what makes the recommendation worthwhile?

Usefulness — Does the information actually help someone make a travel decision?

Final Quality Control — Are obvious duplicates, inconsistencies and weak recommendations removed before publication?

WHY WE BELIEVE THIS MATTERS

Ohio doesn't need another list of places everyone already knows.

There are already excellent statewide and regional travel resources.

What we want Ohio88Insider to add is a different perspective:

Go deeper. Drive farther. Stay local.

TourismOhio itself highlights Ohio's small towns, culinary experiences, hidden gems and locally informed travel ideas. Our mission is to take that local-first spirit even further by creating focused products that make discovering those kinds of places easier.

Because every time a traveler chooses an independent restaurant, locally owned accommodation or small-town business, the trip becomes connected to the community they're visiting.

And that's the Ohio we're interested in showing you.

ONE IMPORTANT PROMISE

Travel information changes.

Restaurants change hours. Properties change ownership. Attractions become seasonal. Businesses close. New places open.

No travel guide—printed or digital—can guarantee that every piece of business information will remain unchanged after publication.

That's why we encourage travelers to confirm current hours, availability, pricing, reservations and policies directly with a business before making a special trip.

We believe saying that openly makes our products more trustworthy, not less.

Our job is to give you a thoroughly researched starting point.

Your job?

Pick a road and start exploring.

THE OHIO88INSIDER DIFFERENCE

88 Counties. Countless Backroads. One Ohio Worth Discovering.

Ohio88Insider isn't about checking famous attractions off a list.

It's about discovering the restaurant you didn't know existed.

The overnight stay you'll tell somebody about later.

The shop you almost drove past.

The backroad you never would have taken.

And the Ohio communities you might never have experienced otherwise.

That's why we do the research.

So you can spend less time searching—and more time discovering Ohio.

Recommended visual treatment

I would build this page in the same clean, aspirational travel style already visible on VacaTripPlan.com, but evolve it toward the rustic/backroads identity of the Ohio88Insider products: large photography, generous white/cream space, warm natural textures, strong serif headlines paired with clean body type, and restrained Ohio/backroads motifs. The existing homepage's emphasis on memorable, experience-based journeys should remain the connecting thread.

For the hero, I'd use one powerful Ohio backroad photograph rather than a collage. Then make the three product sections large alternating image/text bands—Amish Country image left, Restaurants image right, Overnights image left. That will make the page feel like a premium editorial travel site instead of a product catalog.
